Description

The Shiba Inu is an ancient breed that has been around since 300 B.C. They were hunter dogs in the rugged mountain of Japan; in Japanese “Shiba” means “brushwood” (referring either to the brush in the mountains or to the dog’s reddish coat) and “Inu” means “dog.” These dogs nearly went extinct by the end of World War II, but they survived Japan’s wartime deprivations and are today Japan’s number one companion dog. They were brought to America more than 60 years ago and are slowly becoming more popular in the West.

The Shiba Inu is a bold, spirited, good natured companion dog. This is highly intelligent dog with a strong-willed temperament. They make a good family dog because of their loyalty and devotion. Their coat comes in orange red, urajiro (cream to white ventral color), sesame (black-tipped hairs on a rich red background), and black & tan.
